Amazon Kindle The basic Kindle goes all touch

Amazon has just updated the base model of its Kindle e-book reader range, and in a welcome development, it has made it a touchscreen affair. Unlike its predecessor, where one had to tangle with a button based navigation system, the new Kindle sports a touchscreen, letting you tap, type and swipe.

Amazon also claims that the new Kindle comes with a faster processor, but what really grabbed our attention - as always - was the 6.0-inch e-ink display. No, it does not glow in the dark like the one on the Kindle Paperwhite, but it is a sheer joy to read books on and almost mimics the paper experience. Top that off with a selection of millions of e-books on the Amazon Kindle Store, a battery life that runs into weeks, and stacks of additional features, like a built-in dictionary and vocabulary builder for children, and you have perhaps the best reading device in tech town by a mile. Pretty much the only option for anyone into digital book reading, in our opinion, and at Rs 5,999, worth every paisa.
